Regardless of the recreational pharmaceutical in question (Acid, Alcohol, Amphetamines, Cannabis, Cocaine, Crack, Ecstasy, Hallucinogens, Heroin, Ice, Prescription-Medication, Speed, or whatever), substance-abuse is an obstacle best viewed in the same light as other maladaptive or compensatory mechanisms; not dissimilar to the myriad of other equally pathological and self-destructive behaviours seen in therapy. In most cases there exists a sound reasoning/origin for this injurious and suboptimal behaviour, albeit at an unconscious or suppressed level. The abuse of a substance (despite the perceived short-term gain) is often a symptom of a repressed or deeper-seated issue. A failure to address the causation will invariably result in the persistent recurrence of the drug habit under stressful conditions.
Should drug-taking or substance-abuse be an issue, determining the origin/causation of this compensatory mechanism, will greatly minimise the chance of recurrence; and given sufficient insight, ownership, and volition. often eradicate it entirely.
The adoption of an Integrated approach to Drug Counselling and Substance-Abuse Therapy, allows us to blend a variety of techniques simultaneously within a single framework. It also means that we can offer you a choice of either short-term or long-term therapy solutions. As a result, we are able to tailor our services to match your individual needs and requirements much more closely than any single traditional form of therapy would allow.
Counselling and/or Psychotherapy are a process which allows you to talk about your feelings and concerns, within a confidential and supportive environment. It does not involve advice, labelling or judgement. Instead, it provides you with an opportunity to gain insight into your present situation, feelings and behaviour. As a consequence, you will be able to make a clear and informed choice about your future options in life.
